Responding to a lack of outlets for discussion in the telecom industry, Chicago-based TelecomMedic is taking to the Internet, launching their open telecommunications industry blog Telecom Triage. The blog is a forum for industry insiders to wax on news, trends and analysis, while providing customers with an easy way to understand the often confusing business of telecommunications.
The blog, hosted on TelecomMedic’
“We want people to be informed consumers,” says Bill Leutzinger, president. “With so many options for telecommunications service, it can be confusing to make sense of what companies are offering. The blog is a way for us to deliver clear explanations that will help customers make the best decisions for their business.”
Launched in early May, the TelecomMedic blog hits on topics ranging from the importance of diversifying sales avenues and the best ways to contract sales agents to demystifying the telecom world for the layman.
“There are so many different options within telecommunications. It’s not just phone and Internet anymore,” says Leutzinger, who sits on the board of Phone + Magazine, and has more than 25 years in the business. “It can be difficult for customers to know what they are looking at. We’re like translators for businesspeople.”
CFO Shawn Drimmel says customers often go through a time-consuming process to find the best communications solutions for their business, and risk making quick decisions they soon regret when the first bill arrives.
“Many business owners end up calling multiple carriers, and it can be very confusing. Unless you’re an expert, you are likely to end up making the wrong decisions,” he says.
Drimmel says TelecomMedic’
“I like to explain what we do by likening it to independent insurance brokers. We consider all available options and solutions given our client’s needs, and present customers with the best options for their business,” he says.
Other authors on the blog, which include seasoned telecom industry insiders, will offer deeper insight to issues affecting the telecommunications industry, while giving an independent look at trends affecting the business.
informal setting of a blog gives authors and readers a fun and casual way to discuss everything from the effects of a slow economy to human resources tips. Some of the content is inspired by a recent Phone + round table discussion, where Leutzinger and other executives discussed industry trends.
Leutzinger says TelecomMedic, founded in early 2008, gives customers a lifeline to the inner workings of the telecom industry. He says the guaranteed complimentary consultations build the types of relationships business owners appreciate and benefit from.
“Rather than dealing with someone who you’re never going to hear from again, we are committed to upholding our relationships with customers. We will be with the customer as long as they need us, which is unique in this industry,” says Leutzinger, who has a master’s of science in information communications sciences from Ball State University. He is an adjunct instructor at DePaul University’s school of content management systems.
