In the face of declining export earnings, decreasing remittances of overseas Filipino workers and diminishing foreign investments as an effect of the global financial crisis (GFC) on the Philippine economy, TA Trade Advisory Services and TA nuñez law present a timely conference that will bring together corporate decision-makers to discuss applicable solutions in the current business environment. To be held on 18 June 2009 at the Executive Lounge of Ayala Tower One in Makati City, “Remedial Perspectives on the Global Financial Crisis” is a conference featuring speakers from the academe, the business sector and government.
“The impetus for this conference is to afford corporate decision-makers a well-balanced perspective on this continuing economic climate,” says Atty. Joel Nuñez of TA nuñez law. “While direct financial exposure of Philippine firms to problematic foreign firms is limited, the impact of the current crisis to economic growth, employment, and overall investment potential remains an urgent concern.”
Speaking from the perspective of private business is Dr. Cecilio Pedro, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lamoiyan Corporation, who will talk about how strong leadership in business using rehabilitation, restructuring and other financial tools can help companies during times of crisis. Dr. Pedro is a well-recognized Filipino entrepreneur and employer, and is the leading force behind the success of the Hapee toothpaste brand. In March 2009, Dr. Pedro was a speaker in the Leadership Conference Series, along with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban.
To present a historical perspective on the GFC is Prof. Roy Ybañez, a professor on Corporate Finance and Investment Management at the University of the Philippines College of Business Administration. He will discuss the applicable lessons that can be lifted from this perspective, which can help businessmen cope with the effects of the crisis. Prof. Ybañez is the Professorial Chairholder of Isla Lipana & Co. and PricewaterhouseCoopers Professorial, and his publications in his fields of specialization are well-respected in the local and international academic community.
Hon. Efren Leaño, Executive Director of the Management Services Group at the Board of Investments (BOI), will provide the government perspective and propose ways of mitigating the effects of the GFC on private businesses with the help of government incentives. Mr. Leaño has extensive knowledge in strategic planning, investment promotion and investment policy formulation, and his experience includes serving as Assistant Director for Investments at the ASEAN-Japan Centre in Tokyo and working on several ASEAN Foreign Trade Agreements
An open forum will follow the speakers’ presentations to allow for the free exchange of ideas among attendees. To maximize participation, the conference will be limited to 120 CEOs, CFOs and COOs. “Remedial Perspectives on the Global Financial Crisis” is co-presented by JCI-Manila (The Manila Jaycees). The contact details for registration are provided below.
