Boquete Panama
Despite its seeming isolation, the Boquete location is quite accessible as this town is situated only 30 minutes away from David, the capital of the westernmost province of Panama, Chiriquí.
Owing to its altitude of about 1,200 meters above sea level, Boquete has a refreshingly cool climate. Its mountainous geography likewise offers refreshing sceneries and outdoor leisure activities that have become popular to both local and international tourists.
Tourism, however, is not only the flourishing industry as a result of the Boquete location. An equally important industry is agriculture, particularly coffee farming which is best suited for the highlands. The town, as a result, produces some of the finest coffee beans in the world.
The town’s name is a Spanish word meaning a gap or opening. Old World conquistadors in search for gold pioneered in trekking through this gap in search for a shorter and less time-consuming trail to the Pacific Ocean.
The Boquete location is famous for many scenic landmarks. The most striking of these is Volcán Barú, an extinct volcano that rises to an altitude of 3,475 meters above sea level. The volcano is the tallest point in the entire Panama, and tourists can enjoy a relatively easy climb to its summit. Another important landmark is the Rio Caldera, a river waterway that runs through Boquete, shaping much of the town’s geography. Lush green hills border both sides of the river, adding to the natural wonders and envigorating climate that have been the town’s main attractions to myriads of vacationing tourists.
