Talisay top reg’l winners
The province of Negros Occidental, and San Carlos and Talisay cities were the top three winners in the Regional Development Council VI Best Public Sector Projects Award-Year 3.
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia will host the awarding rites at the Bacolod City Government Center in May 2009.
Antique Gov. Sally Perez, RDC chairman, told Leonardia yesterday that they want the awarding ceremony for the best practices held at the new government center on May 14.
It will be a “One-Visayas”
The province of Negros Occidental won the Computerized RPTA System Project, San Carlos City – Eco-Center Project and Talisay City – Comprehensive Health Development Program, in the provincial/city government units category.
The top three winners for the municipal government units category are Nabas, Aklan that won the P.D. Health Nutrition Development Program, Sebaste, Antique – Integrated Health Care Program, and Sta. Barbara, Iloilo – Ecological Solid Waste Management Program.
The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology VI, Department of Health 6 and Land Transportation Office VI were the top three winners in the regional line agencies category, while the Aklan State University, Capiz State University and U.P. in the Visayas were the top three winners in the state universities and colleges category.
On the choice of the ceremony at the center, Perez said “The main purpose of holding the awarding rites at the new government center is because they want to see the facility, especially when the fountain is turned on, which reminds them of the British Parliament. For me this is a landmark of Bacolod,” she said.
Leonardia said the participants of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines convention compared the government center to the White House. “We were told that the dinner at the government center was the highlight of the record-breaking IBP convention that registered 2,380 delegates,” he said.
It was a very good exposure for the city and the delegates described the new government center, not as a City Hall or the Capitol, but the White House, Leonardia said.
“I think time will come that people will say that you have not been to Bacolod if you have not been to the new government center,” he said.
Leonardia said the inauguration of the facility will be held tentatively in June. He said Perez informed him that they want to attend the inauguration so if they have the inauguration finally, it will be a “One-Visayas”
