A lot of less performing publishing system vendors claim scripting isn't a big deal. They tell their customers it doesn't add much to the cost of the system as a whole.
"A lot of customers of editorial workflow systems were bitten by the cost of scripting, no matter what these vendors claim," said Erik Vlietinck at IT Enquirer. "It is not efficient, and it is a point solution. If you want to extend your system so it will integrate with a project management system installed at your enterprise, for example, the integration itself will only hold as long as both systems remain the same. According to the author, systems that only can be extended to fit a publisher's needs by scripting or programming should be avoided.
Systems which allow functionality to be extended and expanded through built-in workflow and action tools are much more flexible and less costly to implement and run, concludes the IT Enquirer free analysis.
