June 2, 2009 - PRLog -- Mobile Muezzin provides a new service to the Muslim community to ease the daily practice of the Islam: any Muslim observant can now download on his mobile phone a Java application that provides prayer hours for each day of the year, with a high degree of precision (more than 5 million locations on the planet). In any situation (at home or while travelling), the Muslim observant knows the exact daily prayer times and can visualize the direction of Mecca regarding his current location.

Mobile Muezzin uses complex astronomical formulas to determine precisely the five Islamic prayer times, regarding when: morning's dawn or twilight starts (Fajr), the sun rises (Shuruq), the trailing limb of the sun has passed the meridian (Zuhr), the shadow cast by an object equals a certain length (Asr), the sun sets (Maghrib), evening's dusk or twilight disappears (Isha).

The service was launched during the 2nd quarter of 2009. It is now available on all mobile phones which are Java compliant (which represents a large majority of the mobile phones in service today). Entirely designed for mobiles, the application answers a real need for the Muslim community.

The Grand Prix Romand de la Créativité (GPRC) has rewarded this service as one of the most innovative of the year 2009.

The Jury, composed of Swiss professionals from the press (Le Temps) and from the Web (Netinfluence), has selected Mobile Muezzin for its innovative concept, in a mobile market where applications and services are in general copied from existing web sites. Ease of use and excellent precision (more than 5 million locations on the planet) differentiate’s Mobile Muezzin from its competition.

Mobile Muezzin is the first block of a strategy to offer a set of services dedicated to the Muslim community with a high added value.

“To develop a complete set of applications that ease the daily life of the Muslim observants” are the vision and the objective defined by Taha Ben Mrad, one of the founders of Mobile Muezzin.
These services will of course be driven by new features offered by mobile communication and the Web.
