The push to reactivate the Kra Canal Project - the multi-billion-dollar venture to redraw the maritime map of Southeast Asia – is quietly regaining momentum, says Swarup Roy, CEO and founder of TIME International Management Enterprise, publishers of AseanAffairs magazine.

The Bangkok-based, English language bi-monthly, claims that it is the first to report on the latest attempts to reactivate the long-dormant project that has been shrugged off as a pipe-dream.

Entitled, “Kra Canal: Countdown to Resurrection”, the Cover Story in the May-June 2009 edition of AseanAffairs magazine explores the project’s origins that date back to 1677 AD, analyses the reasons for the long delay and explains why there is a strong potential for the eventual take-off.

As it often happens in the business of reporting, the lead to the Kra Canal story came unexpectedly. It just came out of the blue’, said CEO Roy, who happened to learn ‘inside stories’ and latest developments of Kra.

Giving an essential support to the cover story is an interview with Khun Pakdee Tanapura, a board director of Thailand’s National Committee for Study of Kra Canal Project.

There are a few informed sources which enable AseanAffairs to obtain exclusive information on the latest attempts to revive the project, access to an artist conception of the Kra Canal, location maps, the list of feasibility studies and the chronology of the Kra project.

Apart from the cover package, the May-June edition updates its readers of what has been going on in Southeast Asia, and what the future holds through its regular columns.
