Total Sports Asia (TSA) has successfully secured exclusive media rights for the French Football Ligue 1 for distribution into selected South East Asian markets.
A deal was reached between TSA with Canal+ Events, owners of the international audiovisual rights for the Ligue 1.
The deal runs from the 2009/10 season for four years, ending with the 2012/13.
Total Sports Asia will market rights in Thailand, Indonesia, Timor Leste, The Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
Pierre Lelong, Media Director of Canal+ Events stated: “Canal+ Events is pleased to develop distribution of the French League with TSA in South East Asia; Asia is part of the worldwide strategy to strengthen the international exposure of Ligue 1 by securing broadcast partners.”
Senior Vice President for Media at Total Sports Asia, Julian Jackson said: “We have worked long and hard to get the rights to the Ligue 1 as we believe that it is a league which has so much potential – especially because of the quality players that ply their trade in France, as well as the fact it is broadcast in High Definition, giving it a major advantage over many similar leagues.”
Jackson added: “Over the years, TSA’s strength has been our ability to build brands and establishing them in the eyes of broadcasters, consumers, sponsors, ISPs and mobile platforms alike. The Ligue 1 is one such brand that we firmly believe will gain prominence in the region over the coming years.”
For the French Football League (LFP) and Canal+ Events, working with a local agency in South East Asia, with a strong marketing base in the region, is a guarantee of a mid-term successful development.
