3DJam.com is challenging the copyright issues faced by online games worldwide

3DJam.com is challenging the copyright issues faced by online games worldwide
The Danish Software company 3Djam.com has just released their Roozz Plugin, a new browser plugin, that makes it a very quick and simple task to web-enable any software application. The plugin is particular well suited for online game and demanding application which needs full advantage of client computer CPU and GPU power. The browser plugin is not only restricted to one or two programming language but can be used with any programming language. In addition to solving the speed issues, the Roozz plugin also solves copyright protection in a genius new way.

Protecting copyrights of media files and applications is a continuous arms race
It is a fact that any copyright protection of files or applications on the end users computer can be broken. Either there exist an analog hole, or alternatively memory can be dumped and data can be extracted. For media files like text, audio and video the analog hole will always exist, thus little effort shall be used to try to protect such files. But for applications and games, no analog holes exist and only few people have the skills or tools to break the newest copyright protection. Therefore it becomes worthwhile the investment to implement DRM (digital rights management). 3Djam.com has just taken a big step forward in the arms race of DRM, with their new high end product; the RoozzDRM, CEO Thomas Jam Pedersen say: “We expect that it will be several years before our patented DRM algorithm is compromised”. (In comparison most DRM products are compromised only few months after the release).

RoozzDRM works like HIV
Because of fear of been compromised, most DRM product will not tell how they work, thus making it hard for customers to evaluate which product to choose. Contrary 3Djam.com is happy to explain how their RoozzDRM product works: Basically it works similar to HIV says CEO Thomas Jam Pedersen. The software mutates the program files, media files and even the communication with the server all the time. So if someone ever manages to crack the application running on the end users computer. Then it will not work 5 minutes after it was downloaded the first time.
The Roozz products must have access to the server all the time. If access to the server is lost for more than 5 or 10 minutes, then the software will stop working. Based on a secrete algorithm which is implemented on the server, new tiny chunks of program code or media files patches are send out to the client computer continuously. Without this continuous stream of tiny changes from the server the application will stop working. The key to the success is that the stream changes at random, making it extremely hard to spoof the application with some stream from a private server. More over the algorithm that creates the random stream on the server is not locked to the implementation of the Roozz plugin. This makes it possible to change the algorithm from one customer’s server to the next or even upgraded regularly to avoid leakage.

Speed and bandwidth requirements
The RoozzDRM protection requires a continuous download bandwidth of minimum 1 kbps, which is actually very little even on a mobile platform. But the good news is that because of the way the Roozz plugin is implemented it uses the CPU power of the client computer MUCH more efficiently than any competing technology today. The graph below show a CPU speed comparison between the most common web programming technologies today compared with different programming languages running on the Roozz plugin. Please visit: www.3djam.com/speed_demo.aspx for an online demo and option to download the source code for the test cases.

Business model
End users can download and install the Roozz plugin free of charge from 3Djam’s website. This plugin allow end users to run all the products, which are released on 3Djam’s Roozz technology platform. To provide applications via the Roozz technology platform, companies are required to purchase one license per server. Currently 3Djam market two types of licenses: The low cost RoozzSTD (standard) at 95€/year, which provides a very simple type of copyright protection and the high end product RoozzDRM at 9995€/year, which offers the markets most advanced DRM solution to protect applications and content files from pirate copying and distribution.
