The Moorpark Morning Rotary is excited to have Hilary Gushwa as their featured speaker on Friday, June 5, 2009. Hilary is a former Moorpark resident and is the reigning Miss California International 2009. She will be representing the State of California at the Miss International Pageant to be held in Chicago , Illinois this July. Hilary is a 26 year old student at California State University , Northridge. Her major is Anthropology.
In 1999 she founded Heart2Heart in the city of Moorpark as a way to help leukemia and other blood-related cancer patients. Over the past ten years Heart2Heart has raised over $75,000 for this cause. As a result of drives funded and held by Heart2Heart, four patients have found matching donors are now in remission.
Hilary Gushwa has won numerous awards for Heart2Heart, and the countless hours she's dedicated to the community. These awards include: President Bush's "Call to Service Award", Phenomenal Women Inc.'s "Phenomenal Woman Award", Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year, and most recently was nominated for L'Oreal Paris' "Women of Worth Award".
