The Andover Public Library will host a Ballet in the Park performance by Ballet Wichita at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 in Andover Central Park. The performance, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, is underwritten by a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Butler County.
“We hope to fund more projects like this. It is our hope the ballet will draw crowds who already enjoy ballet, as well as, those experiencing the story-telling dance for the first time,” noted Angie Baur, President/CEO of the Community Foundation.
As a platform for building communities, the community foundation is able to financially support a broad spectrum of initiatives. “Bringing people together to enjoy the arts is one way the foundation supports building a community,” Baur added.
For over 25 years, Ballet Wichita, formerly known as Metropolitan Ballet of Wichita, has presented free performances for its Ballet in the Park series in Wichita and surrounding city parks.
“A number of our dancers live in Andover and so we are delighted to have this opportunity to perform in their community thanks to the support of the community foundation,”
Andover residents dancing featured roles in the production are Victoria Lovato as Snow White, Remmington Phillips as the Prince, and Michael Lauren Phillips as the queen. Also, Matthew Phillips, brother of Remmington and Michael Lauren, will perform as the groomsman during the Saturday performances. The production will also feature Pango, a horse from the Flint Hills Therapeutic Riding Center.
“One of the responsibilities of a library is to bring culture to the community and we are delighted to have the support of the community foundation and to bring to the Andover community the talent and reputation of Ballet Wichita” said Carol Wohlford, Library Director.
The performance, which will run 30-45 minutes, is free to the public, which is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and a picnic to enjoy the show, and the many features in the 80-acre Andover Central Park.
