Daniel Glover the owner of Trapper Dan’s Wildlife and Pest has seen a rise in snake related calls from triangle homeowners. Mr. Glover stated that in the last month he has had over 40 snake calls by triangle homeowners. The homeowners are finding them everywhere from the garage, bathroom and kitchen and in common areas throughout there yards. Even though it is common to see snakes this time of the year many experts contribute this rise to the damper and warmer days that we had during early spring. When you have warmer days and wetter conditions it allows snakes to become active early in the season and that is one of the reasons that people are seeing more activity this year.
Trapper Dan’s Wildlife and Pest offered a few tips for homeowners to pay attention to in order to avoid contact with native snakes of North Carolina.
1. If you are working in the yard, make sure to look before you pick-up wood or anything that could harbor a snake. Such as woodpiles, flower pots, weeds, or construction material.
2. The first defense is snake proofing your home; make sure that you seal any crack or crevices that a snake could possibly gain access through.
3. Make sure to cut down overgrown weeds and grass. This is an ideal place for snakes to hide.
4. Make sure that you close your doors and avoid leaving your garage doors open.
These tips could help you avoid the encounter of an unwanted guess and may allow you a chance to not have a heart attack over a surprise encounter.
If you do have an encounter, you should not try to handle the snake yourself, you should contact someone that is trained to remove and relocate snakes. For more information about snake removal and snake proofing contact Trapper Dan’s Wildlife and Pest Control at 919-610-4853
