East Coast office of high tech PR pioneer honored for second year in a row for environmentally conscious efforts
CAMBRIDGE, MA – May 27, 2008 – For the second year in a row, high-tech PR pioneer Citigate Cunningham has been lauded by the city of Cambridge, MA, for its environmentally conscious efforts.
In ceremonies held last night at Cambridge City Hall, Citigate Cunningham’s Cambridge office received the city’s GoGreen Business Award in the Climate Protection category. Citigate Cunningham was the winner of the 2008 GoGreen Award in the Transportation category.
The agency received the award based on its efforts to promote green efforts in its workplace. Among the actions taken by the company were measures to conserve energy, reduce traffic congestion and auto emissions by providing employee subsidies for public transportation, employing a greenhouse gas reduction plan, and also an employee education program that enlightened workers to the importance of environmental consciousness.
“Our environmental education plan starts from the day an employee starts working for us,” said Gary Thompson, chairman of Citigate Cunningham. “On the day they start work with us, all employees sign Green Workplace pledges, in which they agree to comply with recycling and energy conservation efforts. Each year on Earth Day, employees re-sign and rededicate themselves to this pledge. The company also provides weekly reminders and tips in the form of an internal newsletter called, ‘Keeping Green in Mind.’”
In addition to the efforts within its own offices, the company has also worked in earnest with the management company of its building to make the facility, located at One Memorial Drive, as environmentally efficient as possible. During the recent reconstruction of the building that houses its Cambridge office, Citigate Cunningham was instrumental in driving the management company to adhere to a standard of green reconstruction. The company’s advocacy resulted in recyclable materials being used in the construction process and all new energy-efficient lighting was installed throughout the reconstructed portions of the building, including in the new lobby, fitness center and café. Also, in the newly added café, all cooking equipment is energy efficient.
The green-conscious efforts of Citigate Cunningham has resulted in the building’s management company to look at each of its other properties with an eye toward reducing greenhouse gases, becoming more energy efficient and employing building-wide recycling programs.
In addition to winning the GoGreen Business Award in the Climate Protection category, the agency was also nominated in the Transportation, Waste and Energy categories for its conservation efforts in those areas.
Citigate Cunningham’s Cambridge office is an official partner of the Cambridge Climate Leader, Cambridge’s current Green program. The agency’s San Francisco office has likewise been rewarded for its efforts, having been named a Certified Green Business by San Francisco Green Business.
