Libbi’s daughter, Sami, was born with a limb difference. In an effort to show Sami there are others just like her, Libbi searched for an appropriate children’s book but came up empty handed. Instead of throwing in the towel, she decided to write a book for Sami on her own. Braced with the determination to teach others about children with limb differences and to promote tolerance, diversity and compassion, Libbi embarked upon a photographic labor of love entitled Imagine…Amazing Me!
The book lovingly shows children with limb differences from both Canada and the United States participating in things many take for granted, like sports, dancing and playing musical instruments. It portrays children with disabilities in a positive light by visually showing they can do anything.
Libbi and all of the children featured in Imagine…Amazing Me! have created change for both those with and without limb differences by providing a forum for understanding and hope. Therefore, it is with pleasure and inspired awe that this HPI You Make a Difference! Award is granted to Libbi Chilia.
