San José – Eminent British maestra Jane Glover will guest conduct the Symphony Silicon Valley and Chorale performance of glorious Haydn’s Missa in angustiis, also known as Lord Nelson’s Mass. Orchestra, Chorale and soloists will join forces under her baton to honor the 200 anniversary of Haydn’s death. Glover completes the program with Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony, a salute to the Haydn tradition, and Serenade in C for Strings, Tchaikovsky’
s deeply felt homage to Mozart.
Written during the turmoil of Napoleonic wars, 'Nelsonsmasse' has been hailed as Haydn’s ‘greatest single composition’
. It is the only of the late masses that is composed in a minor key, and has peculiar orchestration with no woodwinds.
Jane Glover, the Artistic Director of Opera of the London Royal Academy of Music, is highly regarded in the international opera stage. Ms Glover has appeared with the San Francisco Symphony, Houston Symphony, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and other prestigious orchestras. In addition she has collaborated with the Mark Morris Dance group conducting major productions of Purcell, Handel and Mozart. Ms Glover wrote 'Mozart’s Women', a book published in 2005, and is currently writing another on Handel.
