Amy Fulton finds joy in the simple things in life and hopes to pass along this valuable trait to readers with her newly released book, Going to the Pond. The book, written for children in pre-school through the second grade, is an uplifting tale of a young boy who delights in spending time with his Mom, frolicking in the water and making all different kinds of fun discoveries throughout his day. Amy is passionate about getting children outdoors so they can learn and grow and she hopes that kids who read her book will want to put down their video games and go outside. “My ambition is to get people to find the time to take a walk outdoors with their kids, to go exploring in their own back yard, and just discover!” states the first time author. Fulton’s Going to the Pond is an enchantingly illustrated story about getting back to basics by enjoying a simple day at the pond with a shovel, a bucket and a vivid imagination.
Amy’s mission in writing Going to the Pond is to bring families closer by getting them to sit down and read the story together and perhaps spark a desire to go on an outside adventure to see what they can discover. “I really want to emphasize family values,” states the stay-at-home Mom, “and the importance of taking the time to interact and have fun together. I want people to take pleasure in the book, to pass it along, to recommend it to others and develop a lasting love for it,” states the author. Fulton, a self-described outgoing, creative and tenacious person, does a lot of her own promotions and plans to get out and do book readings as much as possible. She also plans to develop Going to the Pond into a series of outdoor adventure books. “The rhyming and illustrations really bring the story to life and the characters become endearing” says Fulton, “especially when you add voices and facial expressions while reading the book aloud to children.”
Fulton, a mother of three, is not new to creative writing, as she has been developing stories and poems on her own for the past eights years. She came up with idea of writing Going to the Pond when she was spending the day with her oldest son, Thomas, who was 5 years old at the time. “We have a pond very close to our home and I used to spend whole days there with him,” remembers Amy. “Thomas is an animal lover and one day I was just watching him play in the water and came up with manuscript for Going to the Pond.” Fulton has always had a passion for working with children that dates back to as early as she can remember when her mother was a pre-school teacher. Fulton feels that her Mom’s gift of being so good with kids had a tremendous influence on her and why she later pursued a degree in Early Childhood Education herself and held countless jobs in the childcare field. “My Mom was my role model growing up and I worked under her wing for many years as I learned the best techniques in working with and relating to children,” states the writer.
Amy Fulton currently resides in Doylestown, Ohio with her husband, Danny and their three children, Thomas, 10, Joseph, 8, and Margaret (Maggie), 19 months. Fulton decided to publish Going to the Pond after her grandfather, “Gramps,” who always encouraged her to fulfill her dreams, passed away recently. The book is dedicated to him.
