Under artistic director Bill Beaudry and producing director Kitty Beaudry,
this long running Off-Broadway Steve Martin’s absurdist comedy places Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso in a Parisian cafe in 1904, just before the renowned scientist transformed physics with his theory of relativity and the celebrated painter set the art world afire with cubism.
Bystanders, including Picasso' agent, the bartender and his mistress, Picasso's date, an elderly philosopher and Charles Dabernow Schmendimen, an idiot inventor, introduce additional flourishes of humor. The final surprise patron to join the merriment at the Lapin Agile is a charismatic dark haired singer time warped in from a later era.
This is the second production for the recently established Neanderthal Acting Co. Founded in October 2007 by Shelby Twp. residents Bill and Kitty Beaudry. Supported by a board of directors, the non-profit acting troupe seeks to make the arts more accessible to all walks of life throughout southeast Michigan while giving back to the communities in which they perform.
With more than 30 years of experience in theater, Bill has directed at the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago and taught acting at The Hangar Theatre in Ithaca New York as part summer educational acting programs. A passion for regional theater, he has also directed productions for Macomb Community College, the Richmond Theater Company, Trumbull Theater and Grosse Pointe Theater. Kitty is a past Vice President with Richmond Community Theater. She has extensive experience behind-the-scenes experience, including theater tech work, fundraising and production promotions. She has also been involved in Grosse Pointe Theater.
The husband and wife team are remembered for their founding New Baltimore’s Llama Production Company in the 1990s. Llama was an experimental acting group formed to train actors during a single summer that evolved into a five-year commitment to producing the works of local playwrights.
