May 25, 2009 – One of the most effective tips to prevent panic attacks is to focus on your stress level. Not all stress can be reduced, however, plenty of it can be. When a person suffers from panic attacks, they tend to increase their stress level. This can become a continuous cycle where the attacks are more frequent and the stress continues to build. Face your fears and keep on trying to take control of your panic attacks will help to reduce that level of stress.
Adjusting your lifestyle is also one of the tips to prevent panic attacks. It is the most difficult for people to follow. Pay close attention to what is triggering those attacks for you. If you can relate them back to certain people or certain events, then don't continue taking part in them if they are harmful to you. This doesn't mean you should avoid the situation as a whole, but that you can adjust your life so that you can prevent many of these attacks from continuing. We all know that exercising each day is very important but not all of us do it. Make time to engage in activities for at least 30 minutes everyday. Pay close attention to the foods you consume as your body needs certain vitamins and nutrients for energy and to be healthy. Make sure caffeine is consumed in moderation as too much of it can trigger your panic attacks. There are many professionals out there that have ways to assist you in this field. Talk to your doctor about your problems with panic attacks. A plan of action can be devised to help it all fall into place. For example, your doctor may recommend you take medication to help. They may refer you to a mental health specialist as well for counseling in conjunction with the medications. In order to best assist you, your doctor and mental health professional need to know as much as they can. Therefore, documentation is very important. Keep a written record of information about your panic attacks. Document where you were, how you felt, symptoms you experienced, who was around, and how long the experience lasted. All of this information can be helpful when identifying patterns that trigger your panic attacks. You will find plenty of tips to prevent panic attacks that tell you to face the fear you have about them. This isn't going to be easy but working to have control over how you feel about panic attacks is very important. You may be able to identify what is triggering them but there are many people that never get to that point. Instead they have to focus on being able to identify ways to prevent the attacks and then to cope with them when they do occur. Be willing to try out there various methods though to see if they offer you relief. You may find one works very well for you or that you need a combination of several of them at one time. Don't rely on them only when you have a panic attack, but practice them when you feel good too so that you are taking control.
