Could Vogue’s Choice Of Cover Models Direct A Change In The Fashion Industry?

What better sign could there be that the fashion industry is broadening its outlook more than ever before, than US Vogue featuring black women on its cover for three consecutive months?

Bristol, UK - What better sign could there be that the fashion industry is broadening its outlook more than ever before, than US Vogue featuring black women on its cover for three consecutive months?

First it was First Lady Michelle Obama in March, then Beyonce in April, and May sees model Liya Kebede grace the cover of one of the best known fashion magazines in the world.

Fashion industry commentators are claiming that this amounts to a ‘quiet revolution’ in the business, and a positive move away from the Caucasian ideal of beauty that has dominated the world of high fashion for many years.

All of this is great news for women of all ethnicities who dream of (http://www.modelsdirect.com/ourmodelssay-select.html) becoming a model, of course.

In fact, according to one industry insider, some parts of the modelling industry have been open to all ethnicities for years now. “We’ve seen increasing numbers of clients coming to us to find models of a particular ethnicity over the last few years,” says Damian O’Connor, Managing Director of large UK modelling agency Models Direct.

“There are many reasons that clients specify models that are non-Caucasian. Some are targeting a specific customer demographic, while others are simply trying to reflect the cultural diversity of the community at large in their advertising imagery,” says O’Connor.

The high profile shift in the fashion industry towards embracing diversity can only be a good thing, says O’Connor, because it will encourage more young people to try their hand at working as a model.

“Many people have this stereotype in their heads about what a model should look like, and if they don’t fit, they feel that they can never build a modelling career. That couldn’t be further from the truth. There are opportunities and (http://www.modelsdirect.com/canyouhelp-select.html) modelling jobs for all kinds of people, so I’d encourage anyone wanting to become a model to just give it a try,” says O’Connor.
