MomsMaterial.com founder, Cammie Moise, was looking for a way to promote summer reading for moms when she began reading Everyone is Beautiful by Katherine Center. She realized this book was the key to motivate the moms that visit her website to start the summer off reading.
MomsMaterial.com will provide ideas for moms to continue "schooling" their kids over the summer. One idea is for moms to encourage reading by incorporating a daily reading time for the family. Cammie said, "It is important for kids to see their parents reading for enjoyment. During our reading time at home, you might find me reading the newspaper, magazines, novels, self help books or autobiographies. My kids will even see me reading picture books, early readers and young adult books."
For the giveaway, Katherine Center provided signed copies of her novels, Everyone is Beautiful and The Bright Side of Disaster. Cammie said, "I was so excited when I received the books. Katherine's writing resonates with moms as they see parts of themselves in the main character, Lanie. If they don't see parts of themselves, they certainly have a friend that reminds them of Lanie. She is a mess, barely getting by taking care of 3 little boys and is too exhausted to take care of herself. Then several things happen that cause her to mourn the loss of her old self. And this brings about change."
Children need to see their moms not only taking care of the family, but taking time for themselves. Family reading time is something that benefits everyone.
