“Whether you’re an experienced writer or photographer, or an aspiring one, the inspiration and feedback you’ll receive from working with these top practitioners will bring your skills to a new level,” says Ellen Hoffman, President of the Association. She adds that “participants will also have a chance to sample Mendoza’s Malbec and other increasingly famous wines, enjoy Argentina’s world-renowned beef, and experience some of the world’s most dramatic scenery—the Andes mountains.”
The workshops are based at the Posada de Rosas -- http://www.posadaderosas.com --a boutique inn located in the center of Mendoza city. They offer a combination of seminars, analysis and critiquing of students’ work, and practical experience. Choose from:
· *Substance and Style in Travel Writing-- taught by Camille Cusumano, an American writer and editor, author of the book “Tango, an Argentine Love story,” who divides her time between San Francisco and Buenos Aires. The workshop will cover key topics including the art of reporting and researching, how to pitch your article or book to an editor, how to find your own voice as a writer, and self-editing. July 25- August 1, 2009.
· *Photo Journeys Workshop-- taught by Alison Wright, whose work has appeared in National Geographic and other world-wide periodicals including Smithsonian Magazine and the New York Times. Participants will have an excellent opportunity to shoot with a professional photographer, learn photo tips and get their work reviewed by an expert. September 12-21, 2009.
· *Malbec to Bistec: A Food and Wine Writing Workshop-- taught by Maria Finn, a contributor to the New York Times, Gastronomica and other top publications, whose essays have been anthologized in annual collections of the best food and travel writing. The workshop will focus on traditional Argentine food and wine as well as the creative gastronomic scene spurred by world-wide interest in Mendoza wines. Participants will learn how to brainstorm ideas, find unique story angles, craft a query, research topics and interview subjects, with the goal of writing a draft and then a polished article. October 31- November 7, 2009.
Each workshop offers a winning combination of learning and fun, including:
