Guernsey, Shropshire, and Sefton are the latest forward-thinking Local Authorities to provide students with access to the new exciting online learning resources from Encyclopaedia Britannica. More than 68,000 students will now benefit from access to Encyclopaedia Britannica Online School Edition (http://school.eb.co.uk), in school and at home. Available through each school’s learning platform, Britannica Online offers thousands of expertly written, fact-checked and professionally edited articles, curriculum-based videos and animations, eye-catching illustrations and interactive games to support teaching and learning.

Students in the North West will be provided with engaging and interactive learning resources which can be accessed from any internet-enabled device. Complementing classroom teaching and providing a safe online environment to encourage learning at home, Sefton Council has purchased access to Encyclopaedia Britannica Online for all its primary and secondary schools. Sefton is ensuring that all students from within the local authority have access to the same high quality resources and the same opportunities to develop their learning both in and outside the classroom through its Assimilate Learning Platform from Ramesys.

All State and the majority of Private schools on the island of Guernsey are also benefitting from using Britannica as part of their library service. Students and teachers at both primary and secondary levels are able to use Britannica’s extensive content from anywhere with an internet connection.

Schools across Shropshire are also using Britannica to ensure that teachers and students alike get the most from each school’s learning platform. Without high quality materials a learning platform is an empty shell. Core Education supplies the Talmos Britannica Learning Platform to enable learners to access information and resources. Britannica provides accurate information and illustrations that can be drawn down as individual learning objects.  Teachers can build these into their own lesson plans and home work assignments, to meet specific learning objectives in the classroom and at home.

Robustly designed for use by students and teachers, Encyclopaedia Britannica Online School Edition gives teachers confidence that their pupils are safely accessing age-appropriate information that is clear, current and correct. Jane Falla, Head of Services to Education and Young People, Guernsey School Library Service commented: “The Schools’ Library Service in Guernsey purchased Encyclopaedia Britannica for use by schools across the Bailiwick of Guernsey because it is an attractive and reliable resource which gives pupils a safe and controllable route into online research. “

Encyclopaedia Britannica Online School Edition is a rich source of information for both students and teachers containing easy-to-navigate articles, illustrations, interactive games and multimedia resources. Constantly updated, Britannica is a reliable and trustworthy source of information for use in the classroom and at home. Created specifically for use in schools, Encyclopaedia Britannica Online School edition enables teachers to feel confident that their pupils are accessing age-appropriate information that is clear, current and correct.

Caroline Kennard from Encyclopaedia Britannica commented: “We are delighted that Sefton, Guernsey, and Shropshire have chosen to use Encyclopaedia Britannica in their schools. It’s great to work with such forward thinking authorities providing thousands of learners and educators with access to the most current and accurate source of knowledge available to promote teaching and learning. Established for 240 years, Britannica has a reputation for offering reliable and trusted information. The School edition of Britannica offers parents and educators peace of mind that content learners are accessing is safe, reliable and above all accurate.”

Britannica Online School Edition is compatible with Virtual Learning Environments and Managed Learning Platforms allowing it to be accessed from home as well as school. Sefton, Guernsey and Shropshire are the latest authorities to join such authorities as Calderdale, Doncaster, and Bedfordshire which have already subscribed to Britannica Online School Edition.
