Audubon Environmental Begins Work On Project In Portugal

Sustainability Consulting Firm Contracted By Herdade da Comporta

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)May 21, 2009 – RALEIGH, N.C. – Miles M. (Bud) Smart, Ph.D., president of Audubon Environmental (www.audubonenv.com), a sustainability consulting firm that works with landowners, developers and government entities to protect and sustain land, water, wildlife and natural resources, has announced that the firm has begun work with Herdade da Comporta, a new multi-use development located in the Alentajo region of Portugal.  The 30,888-acre project is situated along the west coast of Portugal and includes wide expanses of Atlantic Ocean beaches, dunes, forest, meadows, agricultural land and marshland.  The primary goals of the project are to protect the land and water and improve the lives of the local population with education and jobs.

With Herdade da Comporta, Audubon Environmental is working to achieve the highest level of sustainability and to preserve the site’s history and culture, as well as to protect and maintain the ecological diversity of the region.  Audubon Environmental will accomplish this goal through environmental restoration, enhancement and protection opportunities; implementing strategies to promote those opportunities; and educating those who will live, work and recreate on-site.  Management programs are created and implemented to ensure protection of the ecological treasures during construction and daily maintenance in perpetuity.

Audubon Environmental is currently working on 11 other multi-use projects in the Iberian Peninsula.  The firm has achieved the highest possible level of sustainability for each of these projects and has restored dunes, re-established endangered species, improved water quality, reduced water consumption, enhanced native habitats, and created ongoing management and maintenance programs to continue the protection of all natural resources.  Work on these projects is coordinated through Audubon Environmental  Europe’s office located in Lisbon, Portugal.
