Kanha National Park has 157 permanent patrolling camps. One can understand the level of difficulty faced by those who do their duty in such patrolling camps with no electricity supply. One can easily estimate the intensity of light produced by such kerosene lamps. During wind-storms that often took place during summers, poses problem for patrolling personnel. Distribution of kerosene to 157 patrolling camps is also a cumbersome task. At the same time handling and proper storage is also expected from patrolling camps personnel as any negligence may cost heavily in the form of forest fire or by way of any other hazardous results.
Keeping all such factors in mind, M.P. Forest Department has decided to replace kerosene lamps with sophisticated solar lamps. Such lamps have quality to produce much more light than kerosene lamps, easy to handle, easy to maintain and also eco-friendly.
Some other positive changes are also going on simultaneously like provision of mosquito net, drinking water-kit, luggage-boxes to all patrolling camps. At the same time department is also looking forward to increase the water sources inside the park territory. Work for searching of new point to dig hand-pumps or well is also going on rapidly. So far 4 Bolero jeeps are have been availed to park rangers which is now going to increase to 11 Bolero Jeeps.
As per Mr. R.P. Singh (Field Director of Kanha) “We are endeavoring hard to increase all necessary facilities and amenities for employees who are posted in patrolling camps, check posts, watch towers. In such attempt we are providing solar-lamps to all 230 Fire-watch-towers.”
