Sanderson Stewart, a Rocky Mountain region based engineering and community development services firm, is the proud recipient of the prestigious ITE Intermountain Section Outstanding Transportation Engineering Project Award for 2009, for their design of the Shiloh Corridor project, in Billings, Montana.
The Shiloh Road Corridor project is a 4.5 Mile, $30 million urban arterial street reconstruction project completed for the Montana Department of Transportation in cooperation with the City of Billings, Yellowstone County, and the Federal Highway Administration. It features 8 pedestrian and bicycle friendly multi-lane roundabouts, which is believed to be the most roundabouts in series on a corridor in the United States. The roundabout solution will help to move traffic safely and efficiently;
This competitive award program was established in 1984 by the Intermountain Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers to recognize contributions to the transportation engineering profession. Only projects from the Intermountain Section states of Idaho, Montana, Nevada, and Utah were considered. Project judging criteria included:
1. Sound use of engineering principals
2. Technical Value to the transportation engineering profession
3. Originality and innovative applications
4. Social and environmental significance
5. Project complexity
An honorable mention award went to the Casino Center Bus Rapid Transit Project in Las Vegas, NV.
