A veterinarian specialist in the U.S. Army, Steven Russell Blessing takes advantage of a long-awaited opportunity that puts him on the front lines in the Vietnam conflict, a war that has no true front lines. His alliance with the Combat Trackers changes his life forever, turning him from a naïve backwoods boy into a hardened combat veteran.
Blessing’s story, intermingled with a tale from a mysterious mental patient named Mr. Knight, blend together to provide an accurate look at the hell that is war. Coarse language, drug use and prostitution figure in along the way to the book’s dramatic climax.
