Chroma Increases High Power AC Sources up to 54KW

PR Log (Press Release) – May 19, 2009 – Chroma answers the increasing demand for high power with the addition of two 18KW models and an 18KW power stage in its 61500 and 61600 series of programmable AC power sources. When functioning in parallel three units can now support up to 54KW of power.

Defining a new standard for high performance AC power sources, Chroma has equipped these new 1 & 3 phase sources with powerful features including power line disturbance simulation, programmable output impedance, comprehensive measurement function, and wave-shape synthesis. Also available is Chroma’s regulation test software covering many applications including aerospace testing of MIL-STD-704F, RTCA DO-160D, and ABD100. With the versatile programmable output impedance and regulation test software, the 61500 AC power source allows users to perform pre-compliance and compliance test against IEC 61000-4-11/-4-1 3/-4-14/-4-28 immunity test regulations and IEC 61000-3-2/-3-3 emission test regulations. These features make these AC sources ideal for applications in power electronics R&D design verification, quality assurance, and regulation testing from bench-top to production.

Using state-of-the-art PWM technology, the 61500 and 61600 AC sources are capable of delivering up to 4 times of peak current compared to its maximum rated current which makes it ideal for inrush current testing. By using advanced DSP technology, sources offer accurate high speed power and harmonics measurements such as RMS voltage, RMS current, true power, power factor, current crest factor and up to 40 orders of current harmonics components.  All models generate a very clean sine waveform output with typical distortion less that 0.5%@50/60Hz.

The 61500 series AC power source allows users to compose different harmonic components to synthesize harmonic distorted wave-shapes. The DC and AC+DC mode also extend the applications to simulate the natural waveform. By providing an external analog input, Chroma’s sources amplify the analog signal from an arbitrary signal generator making it capable to simulate unique waveforms found in the field. These AC sources provide easy operation through the front LCD panel and keypad, or remotely via GPIB, RS-232, USB, or Ethernet and Labview drivers are available to integrate these AC power sources into automated test systems.
