New Orleans, LA:  Attention all pups…laissez les bon temps rouler! Camp Bow Wow New Orleans opens the doors to the city’s Premiere Doggy Day and Overnight Camp on Thursday, May 21st. Now pups can socialize all day at an upscale camp designed to meet their every need, while their parents are at work, enjoying a local festival, or out of town on vacation. Located in the star-shaped 1956 National Maritime Union Hall building at the corner of Tchoupitoulas and Washington Streets, canine campers are free to interact with Camp counselors and other dogs throughout the day having free access to a fenced outdoor area filled with huge oak trees, large play bridges, shaded wood structures and bone-shaped doggy pools.

Camp owner Diane Cooke renovated the 12,000-square foot facility to create a state-of-the-art camp with a rustic environment chock full of amenities designed to accommodate all breeds of dogs.  Each point of the star now houses pup related services like a full service grooming center, behavioral training room, theme based luxury suites and 3 large climate-controlled indoor play areas where pups can roam inside and out, at will, throughout the day. “The Camp Bow Wow philosophy is to ensure that the dogs in our care have the exercise and human attention they love so they all want to come back again,” said Cooke. “Campers are encouraged to play and romp with each other in our play yards that we assign according to their size and activity level. That’s why the interview day is so important, it gives us a chance to see how each pup reacts in a group environment and how active he/she is. Senior campers often need extra naptime, so we’ve created a special Dog’s Den to accommodate them, with sofas, beds and comfy rugs to nestle in.” All overnight campers get tucked in to one of the 68 spacious private, climate-controlled cabins furnished with comfy cots, soft fleece blankets, and campfire treats for all. Pampered pups used to the ultimate in luxury have seven suites to choose from, such as The Hog Dog’s Den, a 10’ x 7’ cabin furnished with a black leather sofa and Harley-Davidson accessories; The Puppy Palace for pups who prefer sleeping on a chaise lounge viewing picturesque wall coverings; and the staff’s favorite, a tribute to our armed forces and public professionals, the Bow Wow Barracks with wooden bunk beds. Suites also have plasma TV’s and individual Camper Cams so proud puppy parents can sneak a peek- even at night!

Campers at Camp Bow Wow are supervised by a staff of Certified Camp Counselors® trained in pet CPR, first aid, dog behavior, group play dynamics, safety and health management.  To ensure the happiness and safety of all campers, the camp will be staffed with 1 counselor for every 15 campers at all times.  Camper guardians can look in on their campers by logging on to Camp Bow Wow New Orleans website to watch real-time Camp activities broadcasted by the many Camper Cams® installed throughout the play yards.

“I am very blessed,” said Cooke, “To me, the true American way is to do something you love. Opening Camp Bow Wow fulfills one of my greatest passions…to work with animals. I’ve been in the Harley-Davidson business for a long time and moved to New Orleans just three years ago. I looked for day care facilities for my two Sharpei pups, but for one reason or another, couldn’t find one where I felt comfortable leaving them. I put together a business plan and then found Camp Bow Wow - the rest is history.” Cooke’s husband continues to be involved with the 4 Louisiana-based Harley-Davidson dealerships and their 4 children now will get to enjoy and work at both family businesses!

Camp Bow Wow® of New Orleans will offer discounted rates to members of the military, along with police and fire departments. They also plan to work with the Louisiana SPCA and North American Sharpei Rescue.
