Recycling Efforts and Elimination of Twenty-Seven Tons of Paper Just a Start

In 2008, the entire Midgett Realty team made plans to help the company ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ in 2009 in order to lessen their burden on the environment. The first step was the immediate discontinuation of their annual vacation rental brochure – a tradition of close to forty years. By investing in technology that allows visitors to their website to build custom brochures online, which could then be printed, viewed or emailed to family and friends, Midgett Realty immediately reduced their corporate environmental footprint by over 27 tons of paper.
Midgett Realty has also been able to utilize technology to reduce the amount of paper leaving their office to homeowners. The over five hundred homeowners that Midgett Realty represents now are able to see statements and other accounting materials online. Printing statements and reports is now up to the individual - saving on paper for the statements and envelopes.
Midgett Realty is also the first and only rental management firm on Hatteras Island to provide curbside recycling services for 100% of its vacation rental homes. By doing this, Midgett Realty and its guests will help the environment through the diversion of recyclable glass, paper, cardboard and cans away from area landfills.
