The Independent Publisher Book Awards are a broad-based, unaffiliated awards program open to all members of the independent publishing industry, and are open to small press publishers worldwide who produce books written in English and intended for the North American market, are independently owned and operated, managed by a foundation or university; or long-time independents that became incorporated but operate autonomously and publish fewer than 50 titles a year. This year, 3,380 titles from independent publishers around the world competed in 65 categories for gold, silver and bronze medals.
The "Naughty Paris Guide", a unique travel guide for the "Sex & the City" generation of female travelers, was written by the Paris-based American author Heather Stimmler-Hall. It includes over 200 color photographs by Kirsten Loop of Waterloo, Canada, and cover and interior design by theBookDesigners of San Francisco. Published in September 2008, the guide is distributed in North America by Greenleaf Book Group and in Europe by Fleur de Lire Press.
Other books nominated in the Travel Guidebook category were "Good Night and God Bless: A Guide to Convent and Monastery Accommodation in Europe", by Trish Clark (Paratus Press), "To Vietnam with Love", by Kim Fay (Things Asian Press), "Ancient Greece: An Explorer’s Guide", by Robert Emmet Meagher and Elizabeth Parker Neave (Interlink Publishing Group) and "The Guide to Baja Sea Kayaking", by Dave Eckardt (Paddle Publishing).
Author Heather Stimmler-Hall will be at Book Expo America in New York City to autograph books and accept her Gold Medal at the gala awards ceremony held on May 29.
