Springfield, MO: At 6:20am this morning, a lost dog began its journey home from Sacramento, CA to be reunited with his military family in Springfield, MO. Coco, a silky terrier, was lost December 12th 2008 and found nearly 6 months later.
Carlton Harvey, along with wife Christina, purchased Coco for their three children from the local Petland in Springfield, MO. Shortly after, Carlton was deployed with the Army to serve in Iraq. In an effort to help make ends meet Christina and their 3 children moved to the Sacramento, CA area to be with her family while Carlton was stationed overseas. On the morning of December 12th one of the children let Coco outside only to find that Coco had escaped their yard. After months of searching for Coco, posting lost posters, checking the local shelters Christina Harvey and her kids lost hope of ever finding Coco again. Once Carlton was set to return from the Middle East the Harvey family moved back to the Springfield, Mo area in March without their Silky Terrier Coco.
Nearly 6 months later helpmefindmypet.com, a lost pet alert service, received a call asking for more information regarding a pet found in the Sacramento area. The pet was Coco the lost silky terrier. Since Petland Springfield provides every pet with a microchip, registration and helpmefindmypet the information was readily accessible. The next day the Sacramento SPCA got involved in the efforts to return Coco to Springfield, MO. Petland Springfield immediately got involved and agreed to pay all the expenses to vaccinate, fly and care for Coco’s return home. “We understand that times are hard. We want to everything we can to help this family.” stated Robb Pettit, general manager of Petland Springfield. Coco’s journey home began this morning at 5am aboard a flight headed for Springfield, MO. Today at 6:00pm Coco will finally be reunited with the Harvey family at Petland Springfield 1610 E. Battlefield Rd. Springfield MO, 65804. In addition to being reunited Petland Springfield is providing the Harvey family with $100 certificate for supplies and a full veterinarian checkup for Coco.
