(Burlington, VT) As requests for financial aid increase at colleges across the country, Bruegger’s Enterprises, Inc. is pleased to announce the first awardees of the company’s newly launched Scholarship Fund. Three of its valued team members have been awarded $5000 college scholarships to pursue higher education in Fall 2009.
Eligible applicants are employees of one of Bruegger’s nearly 190 U.S. corporate-owned bakeries and are high school seniors graduating in 2009 with plans to attend an accredited college or university. All applicants were required to maintain a 3.2 GPA and work at least 500 hours in the nine months preceding college.
“We recognized that funding college has become more difficult during the economic downturn,” said Jim Greco, CEO of Bruegger’s Enterprises Inc. “We launched the program as a way to help our valued team members that are choosing to attend college.”
Winners include Brianna Bell, Molly Gertz and Peter Znameroski.
Bell attends Adams High School in Rochester Hills, Mich. She will attend either Central Michigan University, Michigan State University or the University of Michigan, all of which have extended acceptance letters. She is currently employed at the Bruegger’s Bakery Café at Rochester Hills Plaza.
Gertz attends Leon High School in Tallahassee, Fla. and is currently employed at the North Monroe Bruegger’s Bakery Café. She plans to attend Florida State University to pursue a degree in hospitality.
Znameroski attends Burnsville Senior High in Eagan, Minn. and is currently employed at the Bruegger’s Bakery Café in Eagan. He plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he will pursue a degree in engineering.
Bruegger’s will continue the scholarship program in 2010. Team members must be employed by Bruegger’s Enterprises, Inc. as of August 2009 to be eligible for scholarships in spring 2010.
