Why do Chiropractors work with Dentists?

Chiropractors specialise in treating all joints of the body including the jaw.

Skull, neck and pelvic joint movements have been shown to change and be changed by bite problems. This is because jaw movement and bite influences spinal and muscle function.

In many patients with jaw and bite disorders, the skills of both a dentist and a chiropractor are required to stabilise the condition.

Dental treatment relies on splints (similar to a sportsman’s mouth guard) and braces to improve joint function, relax muscles and reposition the jaw. This bite balancing is sometimes known as functional orthodontics.

The chiropractor and dentist identify the causes of jaw and bite problems originating from the spine, pelvis, skull, jaw and extremities.

What is Holistic Dentistry?

In a nutshell it’s looking at your body as a whole, looking for underlying reasons behind problems rather than simply treating them with painkillers.

Your mouth is the gateway to your body, and ensuring a healthy mouth is key to good overall health.

Problems that may at first appear unrelated to your mouth such as chronic migraines, tinnitus or neck pains may be an issue with the joints and muscles in your jaw, a condition known as a Temporomandibular Joint and Muscle Disorder (TMJDs).

Expert Chiropractors and Physiotherapists work together with our Dentists to treat:

•   Jaw Pain
•   Headache
•   Migraine
•   Ringing in Ears (tinnitus)
•   Dizziness (vertigo)
•   Neck Pain
•   Jaw Clicking
•   Shoulder Pain
•   Arm Pain
•   Sinus Pain
•   Numbness and Tingling
•   Ear Pain
•   Trigeminal Neuralgia

What is Chiropractic treatment?

The Chiropractic approach uses gentle spinal, pelvic and extremity manipulation to restore restricted joint movement and rebalance muscular tone.

This management approach whilst effective in most correctly diagnosed cases can take several months to reach conclusion. Often patients have chronic problems with the teeth, the jaw and the musculoskeletal system leading to arthritis in the jaw and spine. This means people who have been everywhere and done everything with no success can often find relief.

What Can Chiropractors do for Neck & Jaw Pain?

The Chiropractor will perform a complete neurological and orthopaedic consultation and examination that is reviewed with the Dentist.

After review of the examination findings the Chiropractor and Dentist will recommend an appropriate and individual care programme.

Treatment consists of gentle manipulation to the individual joints of the spine, jaw and extremities as well as reducing muscular tension in the jaw, head and neck.
