The Aqua-Evolution aquatic survival training program has become popular in it's success, with children aged between 18 months and 12 years quickly developing skill and confidence in the water in as little as 3-4 weeks, while children as young as two and a half years old are developing their aquatic survival skills after only 11 weeks in the program, and are experiencing successes unprecedented in 'normal' swim schools.
"All of our parents are incredibly proud of their kids" says Grant Jellyman, teacher for the Aqua-Evolution program. "They've worked hard, and you can see it's paying off now when the little ones have learned to push to the surface and roll on their backs to breathe. They love it when we take videos too - some of them are up on our website - they're pretty proud of themselves."
Like most swim schools, Aqua-Evolution is interested in promoting confidence in the water for younger children, but taking it a step further they also insist that small children must know how to at least surface and float in order to survive the first critical moments after an unexpected immersion, until an adult can facilitate 'rescue'.
The program does not just focus on preschoolers though, with Aqua-Evolution taking classes to improve the stamina of kids up to 12, and introducing snorkeling and scuba diving for interested children from 8 years of age. Children from 5-7 years may opt to develop skills in snorkeling and freediving, including breath-hold techniques and stamina training. Children from 8-10 years may opt to join a class of young scuba divers and take weekly lessons to develop scuba skills in preparation for certification as Junior Open Water scuba divers.
