Stanley discussed photographing children’s parties where there are a large number of children. “The group photo is the biggest challenge,” said Shelton. “Children have a short attention span and will quickly become bored with the process of posing and maintaining their position. It is important to be able to do this quickly with a camera capable of getting multiple shots in a short time. No one wants their child to the one who is scratching his nose or rubbing her eye when the photo is taken.”
Stanley believes the photojournalism approach to documenting the event is important to produce a variety of photos that capture memories of the special day. “In addition to the group photo where everyone is posed, the family can enjoy looking at photos of the activities to remember the actual event. I like to move around and get smaller group shots of kids playing games and families interacting and having a good time.”
