New England Direct Marketing Association Wraps Up 2009 Conference

Direct Marketer of the Year Named at Presentation Dinner, NEDMA Foundation Announces 2009 Scholarship Winners

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)May 15, 2009 – Fresh ideas and new business strategies were presented to New England marketers at the 2009 New England Direct Marketing Association (NEDMA) Annual Conference. The event featured keynote addresses from FOX news contributor and Dewey Square Group Principal Mary Ann Marsh and Bringing Down the House author and Fresh Address CEO Bill Kaplan. Over 250 attendees participated in workshops covering new trends in digital media, back-to-basics effective direct mail campaigns and tips for B2B marketers to help them thrive in this economy.

At the Conference’s presentation dinner, Alex MacAaron, of B Direct Marketing Communications, introduced the 2009 NEDMA Direct Marketer of the Year Bob Cargill, Nowspeed Creative Director. MacAaron recognized Cargill for his high level of creativity, dedication and commitment to the direct marketing industry as well as his expertise as a direct marketing practitioner. Cargill, a past president of NEDMA, was praised for his evangelism on behalf of blogs and other social media communications tools.

“This year’s event was another highly successful conference that brought together some of New England’s most talented marketers,” said NEDMA president Gary Lubarsky. “Along with others in the workforce, marketers are facing one of the most challenging times in our careers. Working with reduced budgets for demanding clients has led to some of the most creative campaigns I’ve ever seen, and some very innovative thinking. During this conference I was encouraged by the discussions among the attendees that focused on new ways to creatively overcome obstacles. That is why our annual conference is so important – it gives our community of marketing professionals an opportunity to learn about new tools and techniques from their colleagues and how to apply them in real life situations.”

Also during the conference the NEDMA Foundation awarded its 2009 educational scholarships to two outstanding students. Kristin Dziadul, a student at Western New England College and Stephanie LaJoie, a student at Johnson and Wales University, each accepted the $3,000 award to be applied towards their college tuition. In addition to the monetary award, the students participate in a summer-long paid internship, arranged by the Foundation committee. Both award recipients are also invited to attend the Direct Marketing Association’s intensive three-day Direct Marketing Institute in Boston. The NEDMA Foundation is a nonprofit foundation that encourages undergraduate college students in New England to explore careers in direct marketing.

“We are very pleased to offer the scholarship to these hardworking students,” said NEDMA Foundation Chair Marilyn Ewer. “Even in the best of times we are always more than happy to provide financial assistance, but now we are especially aware of students who are facing difficult economic circumstances. In addition, we want to help ensure future generations of direct marketers. The uniqueness of NEDMA Foundation’s scholarship truly helps to make this possible.”
