Alternatives Bring Good News To Uninsured and Others Suffering From a Tough Economy

Those who have lost health insurance benefits or can no longer afford the premiums have a few low cost alternatives available, thanks to Collegiate Risk Management, a student health insurance and specialty products broker.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - May 15, 2009 -
For a $40 annual fee, anyone can become a member of TelaDoc®, a telemedicine program that offers members 24/7 access to licensed primary care physicians via the phone. Their medical history and symptoms will be taken in to account and any needed prescriptions will be called into a local pharmacy. Each call is a $35 fee.

This means anyone with insurance or not, has the convenience of having access to a doctor any time, day or night. This eliminates expensive trips to the emergency room or walk-in clinic and it’s convenient and not as much as a co-pay.

“I personally use the service,” said Vonda White, President of Collegiate Risk Management. “I knew I had strep throat but it was Christmas Eve and everything was closed. I called from the car and picked up the prescription on my way home.”

TelaDoc also offers 90-day supplies for certain medications, making it cheaper for their patients to get refills through their service. Anne, a TelaDoc member, says that she gets her allergy medication four times a year this way. “It’s convenient and I don’t have to pay the higher fee to see a specialist on my health insurance.”

Need more coverage than this? Collegiate Risk Management also offers Short Term Medical Insurance for anyone under 65 who needs health insurance. The only caveat with short term is that it doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions and it’s only available to you for up to two years. This is a good choice if you’re unemployed, waiting for employer’s benefits to start, a seasonal or temporary employee or a recent graduate. Short term insurance is limited in some states but is often less expensive than COBRA.

“Your premium is based on deductible, length of time you need coverage and coinsurance,” states White. “Deductibles can be as low as $250 and as high as $2,500. A 30 year old single person would pay about $51 per month with a $1,000 deductible and up to $2 million in coverage.”

This equates to good news for a lot of people who suddenly find themselves without health insurance. To take advantage of TelaDoc at the special rate and for short term health insurance, contact Collegiate Risk Management at 800-922-3420 or visit their website, www.collegiaterisk.com.
