Punters are pinning their hopes to 22-year-old heartthrob Alexander Rybak from Norway, whose song Fairytale has been backed from around 16-1, when the betting started, to 11-10 favourite. Will he repay their faith? Or will he continue the negative trend of a male solo artist not having won the contest in 18 years.
The UK entry, It’s My Time, is also proving popular with punters, having been supported from 20-1 down to 14-1. Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and sung by Jade Ewen, the powerful ballad will be seeking to improve on the recent woeful efforts of the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest. In the last six years they have finished 26yh, 16th, 22nd, 19th, 23rd and 25th.
In tomorrow’s Racing Post, Eurovision betting expert, Phil Agius, will run his eye through the 25 contestants, penning his views on whether the punters’ faith in Norway will be justified, the chances of the UK winning the contest for the sixth time and what his best value bets in the contest will be.
