Bihar chief minister and Janata Dal-United leader Nitish Kumar on Friday added a twist to the ongoing behind-the-scene negotiations when he said he would support any party or formation that would give special status to Bihar.
Nitish said, "Nobody knows who is going to form the next government."
The Congress reacted swiftly to the Bihar chief minister’s comments by saying the party is open to give special status to Bihar. “Congress is sensitive to Bihar’s needs,” party general secretary Digvijay Singh said.
Meanwhile, the BJP also went all out to woo the JD-U chief, saying Nitish knows who will give Bihar special status. “We will surely consider special status for Bihar,” BJP president Rajnath Singh said.
“We are getting positive signals from various parties,” Rajnath added.
Nitish’s name was doing the rounds of being on the Congress's new ally list following Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's praise at a press conference recently.
The Bihar chief minister, however, has been maintaining that he would support the NDA until now. The scramble for support to make the government has already resulted in the Biju Janata Dal, a former NDA ally, pledging support to the Congress at the Centre.
