SuperPad, a suite of professional mobile GIS software developed by SuperGeo, provides field surveyors a convenient and powerful tool to collect, map, measure, and locate GPS position with PDA or other handheld devices. SuperPad is the main product of Mobile GIS Software in SuperGIS series products and its Beta is released in early May.
SuperGIS Mobile Engine
Compared with SuperPad 2, SuperPad 3 employs SuperGIS Mobile Engine 3.0 as the core. Therefore, SuperPad 3 not only can be implemented in all handheld devices supporting .NET Compact Framework, but also prevent the incompatibility between software and hardware. Moreover, the files in SuperPad 3 and the settings along with the symbols in SuperGIS Desktop or other GIS software are exchangeable, so the speed of mapping and the use of project can be increased. Also, the user interface, manipulation, and performance of SuperPad 3 are greatly improved; this facilitates users to work more effectively.
The features of SuperPad 3 are listed below.
Brand-new Core Component
The core component of SuperPad 3 is SuperGIS Mobile Engine, the software development tool structured on .NET Compact Framework. Thus, SuperPad 3 can be implemented on any mobile devices which support .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP2 or higher, to extend the performance platform.
Whole New User Interface
SuperPad 3 provides whole new user interface. To provide a more user-friendly interface, the new toolbars use a minimum amount of screen space. There is still sufficient space on the screen for layer display.
GPS status bar
GPS status bar is added at the bottom of the window in SuperPad 3. Users can adjust the color and transparency of the status bar so that users can manage the coordinates clearly without reducing the space for map display.
Smart Editing Toolbar
SuperPad 3 provides smart Editing Bar which can be the assistant for editing features. Several assistant tools are provided in Editing Toolbar, such as fixed extent, undo, redo, etc. With these tools, users can conveniently handle the features and save the changes after confirming. Therefore, the efficiency of editing can be improved significantly.
Highly Flexible Open Component Structure
The highly flexible software structure of SuperPad 3 enables users to develop extensions, such as self-defined layer format, thematic map display, symbol styles, customizable attribute page, etc. As a result, SuperPad can be applied to various fields, and the efficiency and the extension of filed survey can be improved.
Interoperability with SuperGIS Server and SuperGIS Image Server
SuperPad 3 supports the interoperability with SuperGIS Server and SuperGIS Image Server. Due to the Internet booming, the speed of layers and images updating becomes increasingly essential. Users can display and query layers on the Internet by connecting to SuperGIS Server. Also, users can connect to SuperGIS Image Server to download a great volume of images for displaying background. Consequently, field surveyors can download the data via the Internet or upload the latest investigation results to the server to save time and improve performance efficiency.
Improving the Use of Spatial Reference
SuperPad 3 offers complete spatial reference objects to support more than 100 commonly-used coordinate systems in the world. Therefore, layers with different coordinate systems can be adjusted and overlaid together in SuperPad 3, and the use of the layers can be increased.
Multiple Customized Extensions
SuperPad 3 offers various built-in customized extensions, such as Sketch, Bird View, Routing, etc. The original code sample will be appended in the product. This enables developers to develop various extensions quickly. The development environment can be Visual studio or text editors, such as Notepad. All you need to do is to utilize VB.NET or C#, and the customized extension can be built up to meet developers’ need.
