Can HEPA filter Prevent Swine Flu?What are the alternative solutions offered by AEGISASIA Singapore?

Our antimicrobial offers long lasting protection from virus and other microbial contaminants.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)May 15, 2009 – Can HEPA filter Prevent Swine Flu?

The 2009 swine flu outbreak is the spread of a new strain of H1N1 influenza virus. The new strain is an apparent mixed collection of several strains of influenza A virus subtype H1N1 including a strain endemic in humans and two strains endemic in pigs, as well as an avian influenza.

Swine flu is spread in the same fashion as ordinary influenza - through the droplets which come out of the nose or mouth when a person coughs or sneezes. These are then either airborne or precipitate out of the atmosphere on to a surface.

The virus is then transmitted to another person by them breathing in the airborne virus or touching a contaminated surface, such as door handles or hand rails, and then touching their own face. Flu virus can live on a hard surface for up to 24 hours and on a soft surface or around 20 minute (National Health Service, UK).

So could HEPA filter remove an influenza virus, such as Swine flu, from the air? A HEPA filter is effective at removing particles from the air that are 0.3 micrometers or larger in size. However, as the Swine flu virus is between 80-120 nanometres in size (0.12 micrometers), HEPA filters may not be totally effective at removing Swine flu from an atmosphere. Likewise carbon filters are effective at absorbing odours and chemicals from an atmosphere but would also be ineffective at eliminating viruses.

What are the alternative solutions?

AEGIS ASIA, Singapore offers two defence mechanisms against Swine Flu H1N1

1. Forward offence: To Bio-fog the entire environment with Ox Bio disinfectant biocides proven effective against Influenza viral strains. This system helps to kill virus and other microbial contaminants at all nicks and corners (that are not humanly possible to reach) of the building.

2. Forward defence: (Preventive Strategies):  ÆGIS Microbe Shield, a surface bonded long lasting non leaching antimicrobial proven effective against Influenza viral strains.  ÆGIS is anti viral and anti microbial. Kill two birds with one stone, and get immediate and long term benefits like reduction of microbial activity and spikes in your treated indoor environment. ÆGIS  Shield Works 24 hr, 7 days a week, 365 days.

Our antimicrobial offers long lasting protection from virus and other microbial contaminants. The aim of our bio-decontamination is to take control of the site bio-sphere and re-establish a controlled environment, safe for human occupation and reduce potential cross contamination.
