With the increasing popularity of social media advertising for online business, many tools have been created to allow companies to make the most of this resource.
One of the most effective methods of traffic generation and search engine optimization (also known as SEO) to website content is by submitting pages to social bookmarking sites like Digg, Propeller and literally hundreds of others. This practice increases a sites value in the eyes of search engines like Google, as well as drives potential new customers.
In a new study completed by web traffic company uSocial.net, the many positives and negatives of business social bookmarking campaigns have been revealed, including the many pitfalls related to the time and cost factor.
“We spent around 30 days analyzing over 200 social bookmarking sites, looking at the time and financial cost an average business would have to invest to get the greatest results,” says uSocial.net Marketing Manager Serena Adamson.

Though despite the immediate benefits, there were some considerable draw-backs to using such a vast amount of social bookmarking sites.
“We found that to make this realistic, a company would have to employ, on average, two new employees per month just to handle the workload implemented by such a social bookmarking campaign. This could cost upward of $50,000 per annum, which in the global recession we’re now seeing, may not be realistic,” states Adamson.
It was this realization that cause uSocial.net to create a new suite of social media marketing products, including their automated social bookmarking service.
The service, said to be the cheapest and most effective of its kind on the web, allows businesses to submit an unlimited number of links and content to over 200 social bookmarking sites with no effort at all on their part.
“We’ve created a piece of software which allows us to submit content to hundreds of sites instantly and we’ve made it available to anyone embarking on a social bookmarking campaign, at a cost which is attainable to any business,” states Adamson, speaking of the new service. “The response to it has already been tremendous and it’s good to know that we’re providing a service which businesses have until now, been crying out for.”
