Tonight, The BBQ Central Show will be joined by Mike Davis. Mike is the pit master of the Lotta Bull Competition Cooking Team. Mike was 2006 KCBS Team of The Year (along with Quau), he was runner up for Team of the Year in 2007 and is currently second in the Team of the Year standings in 2009.
Mike will be talking about the unique cook-off series he is involved in with Prilosec OTC... aptly named, The Prilosec OTC "BBQ SHOOT OUT SERIES". On the Wednesday or Thursday before each competition, NASCAR drivers and pit masters will appear at the participating local Walmart® store. Pit masters will be giving cooking demonstrations, handing out BBQ samples, and maybe even dishing out some BBQ secrets. Fans also get the chance to meet NASCAR driver Jeff Burton #31 and have the opportunity to win tickets to that weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series™ race.
Then on Saturday at High Noon: The judging for the BBQ Shootout begins. More than a dozen entries will be submitted to the grueling standards of KCBS judges. Only the best will walk away with thousands of dollars and priceless bragging rights.
Mike is certainly no stranger to cooking in these kind of shootouts...a few years back he won the BBQ Challenge Series on The Versus Network against the likes of Ray Lampe, Myron Mixon, Lee Ann Whippen and a few other talented BBQ chefs. Mike will talk about what he likes about this project as well as a few other things related to the world of competition barbecue.
Here is what the host of the show, Greg Rempe, had to say about Lotta Bull. "Mike and his wife Debbie have been a force on the competition circuit for a long time now! They have had some great overall finishes in regards to the TOTY and they also just win... A LOT...in the events they take part in. It is certainly no surprise to me to see that they are running 2nd overall currently for TOTY in KCBS", said Rempe. He also added, "Mike and Debbie are also the first ones to try something new if it has something to do with spreading the word about barbecue in general. It is not always about the competition with them...they are truly great people...and I would venture to say that they are better people then they are competition bbq cooks...but I wouldn't want to face them in that arena either!", Rempe stated emphatically.
