(Tuesday, April 28, 2009, Meriden, Conn.)—Lucille Janatka, RN, MSN, FACHE, President & Chief Executive Officer of MidState Medical Center in Meriden, was recently named one of the 2009 “Top 25 Women in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare magazine. This prestigious national award recognizes female executives who are making a difference in the industry through leadership, healthcare advancement and dedication to positive change.
Janatka has been the CEO of MidState since 1999. During her tenure over the past ten years, Janatka is credited with many achievements, both professionally and personally. In her organization, she has spearheaded a team-oriented culture that is focused on quality improvement and service excellence; she has significantly improved and sustained the hospital’s financial performance;
MidState has received numerous accolades for its excellence in clinical quality, as well as high patient, physician and employee satisfaction. Past honors include: Press Ganey Success Story Winner for physician satisfaction (2008), Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, convener status (2006), Top 50 Best Small & Medium Companies to Work For (2005), Connecticut Breakthrough Quality Award (2003), Sodexho Health Care/Modern Health Care Service Excellence Award (2002), and Solucient 100 Top Hospitals for Intensive Care (2000), to name a few.

Last October, Lucille was honored as the recipient of the 2008 Athena Award at a program held by the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes leaders who assist women in reaching their full potential and who demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their work.
Janatka, who resides in Middlebury, has risen through the ranks of healthcare, beginning her career as a registered nurse. After discovering a passion for process improvement, she advanced to healthcare management. Prior to Janatka’s role at MidState Medical Center, she was the Vice President/Chief Operating Officer at Waterbury Hospital. She has also held leadership positions at The Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven, Greenwich Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, and the former Meriden-Wallingford Hospital.
Janatka received her BSN degree from St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, and her MSN Degree from Boston College in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
