Former Investment Banker Creates Website to Help Students and Professionals in Transition find Finance Jobs in a Tough Economy
Chicago, IL – Kaine Alozie was hit by the reality of the economic downturn when he lost his job as an investment banker. After months of job searching, he decided to use his experience as a career counselor and MBA Finance Club president to help others navigate an increasingly competitive marketplace. As a result, BankingorBust.com was created to offer free tools, support and advice to those in the financial sector.
BankingorBust.com offers students and job seekers resources to prepare for careers in financial services - an industry hit especially hard by the current recession. “Some of the most affected by this recession are laid-off junior and mid-level professionals who are equally frustrated by the behavior of executives at their former firms,” says Alozie.
The site features an arsenal of free resources, including finance job postings, finance coursework, resume tips, sample interview questions and forums to promote group support and education. It also offers cost-effective courses in financial analysis - including DCF and LBO modeling – for students on a budget. “Every person with a desire to break into the financial field or just hone their skills should frequent this site,” says Tracy Williams, a retired managing director from a major investment bank.
BankingorBust continues to be helpful to many students and professionals in the financial field. Last February, BankingorBust.com was featured as a resource for students and young professionals attending a Wall Street Conference sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank in New York. According to one attendee, Jose Calunga, MBA student and Co-founder of The Consortium Finance and Bankers Group (CFBG), “I use this web site to prepare for interviews; it has been a great resource for me and other students. Once the economy rebounds, I will already have the skills to be competitive.”
