Charity Channel Gets New Prominent Leader

PR Log (Press Release) – May 12, 2009 – Salt Lake City, Utah – Joseph G. Lake, co-founder of the Children’s Miracle Network, has accepted the CEO position of the Starfish Television Network.

Starfish Television Network is a 24 hour 7 days a week broadcast network with internet streaming. Starfish’s mission is to tell the stories of the individuals and organizations that are making a difference…in their lives, in their communities and in the world. The Starfish Television Network itself is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity.

Lake came out of retirement to take the more than full time position. “When I retired from Children’s Miracle Network, I expected board and advisory positions would come my way,” says Lake. “But I didn’t anticipate taking another executive position. The reason I did so is because the Starfish Television Network has so much genuine potential to truly make the world a better place. I couldn’t be more optimistic about the future of Starfish.”

Lake brings with him over 30 years experience working for or on behalf of many not-for-profit organizations, a tenacious will to make the world a better place and an impressive list of contacts.

“I’ve known and worked with Joe over the course of more than three decades,” says John Marsh, founder of Starfish, President and COO. “Like no one else I can imagine, Joe is a game-changer when it comes to the intersection of nonprofits and media. And, I don’t know anyone else who could get Bill Clinton, George Bush and Rob Lowe on the phone. Nobody has a Rolodex like Joe Lake or works it better. Starfish is in good hands.”

In the few short months since Lake joined the Starfish executive team, he has obtained on-going funding for the network, opened doors with well-known and relatively unknown charities, reached out to other philanthropists for aid in furthering the network’s mission and increased the number of homes in which Starfish can be seen tenfold - from 1.5 million to 15 million.  He plans to continue working to increase the availability of what he calls “the charity channel.”

Lake states, “If we were able to raise $3.4 billion for children’s hospitals with just 21 hours of television each year, imagine what we can do for over 500 charities with 24 hours of television every day!”
