Anne Witton, who works for local development charity, Traidcraft Exchange, explains:
“I know that charities are finding it tough to raise vital funds during these recession-hit times and I wanted to do something to help. I have always enjoyed photography and I thought there might be a market for greetings cards made from my photos.”
The beautiful greetings cards are all handmade and feature a range of subjects, including local images such as the iconic Tyne Bridges.
The proceeds from card sales are shared between local development charity, Traidcraft; mental health charity, Mind; and Manchester City Mission.
Anne, who is also a keen web designer, has set up a website to sell the cards – www.annewitton.org.uk. The initiative has been running for just over a month and has already raised over £100 for good causes.
Anne says, “I’m really pleased with the response so far. It’s early days but I’m getting more orders as more people find out about my cards. I know that one pack of cards was sent as a birthday present to a lady in Bermuda and another pack was ordered by a professional photographer in Japan! It’s good to know that I’m able to make a difference to worthwhile charities in this way.”
