The function to commemorate this significant day was a pleasant and memorable affair which invoked warm memories and a strong hope for a bright future for the nursing profession in India. The event was presided over by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Lan Minagawa, wife of Mr. Kazuo Minagawa, the honorable Japanese Consul-General.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. K. M. Cherian, Chairman, Dr. K. M. Cherian’s Frontier Lifeline Hospital said, “Nurses are by far the most visible members of any hospital's workforce, so the impact and impression they create is tremendous. The International Nurses day theme this year is - Delivering Quality, Serving Communities:
Nurses leading care innovations. This theme is especially relevant in our vast nation which is dependent on these angels of healing and compassion as they permeate the fabric of every society to provide basic healthcare to each individual.”
The nursing fraternity of Frontier Lifeline also launched their nursing web-page
http://www.frontierlifeline.com/nursing/index.htm which aims to promote nursing and to reach out to the vast nursing network thereby creating a support system for further learning, training, interaction and advice. The web-page was officially inaugurated by Mrs. Minagawa and comprises of many interesting links including the FLL nursing E-zine, ‘Facets of Nursing’. This effort seeks to provide a digital voice for the nursing community, which can be heard and responded to across racial, cultural and language barriers.
Commenting on this, Mrs. Lan Minagawa said, “International Nurses Day is indeed a landmark day in any calendar for it celebrates the spirit of sacrifice and dedication shown by the nursing profession. The nursing personnel form the backbone of any hospital. They are the silent caretakers of the sick and the ill, working tirelessly to ensure the well being of the people in their care. I am very happy to be here at Frontier Lifeline today, and it is indeed heartening to see the excellent quality and commitment of Indian nurses getting recognized, as they are, without exception, consummate professionals. Nurses should continue to work with the same zeal and dedication and take great pride in their work.”
Mrs. Minagawa addressed the nurses and shared her insightful and sensitive observations about nursing in general. She commended the nurses on the noble vocation they have undertaken and encouraged them to keep up their service to humanity.
