Magical champion waves break on the shores of the old fisherman's town while hippies of the day sit quietly and watch the sunset.

This was once how one would describe the surfing mecca known as Jeffreys Bay, or fondly referred to as J’Bay by locals. J’Bay has become one of the fastest urban developments in South Africa and has earned it the status of a prime holiday spot destination for having one of the world's best right point-breaks. The town boasts numerous restaurants, the recently opened Fountains Estate mall, and various 'surf-shops' showcasing world famous surf brands. Walking through the streets of J’Bay, one can still feel the essence of a small town with the unique laid-back atmosphere that is in the area.

Treasurus Sculptures
It is here in Jeffreys Bay where one can find the unique and exquisite creations by local artist Sbu Maseko. As a multi-talented artist, Sbu is a painter as well as a wax and wrought iron sculptor and has nine years experience in his craft. Sbu carves detailed sculptures from wax making distinct facial expression of each animal sculpture setting off an emotion through every detail. He also makes practical items such as chairs and window frames from wrought iron, however he does not shift his artistic flare as he manages to create large sculptures, of various animals, also from the wrought iron which can decorate one’s garden. Although Sbu has one or two pieces as examples, he generally crafts on order which ensures that all his pieces are custom made and completely unique to one’s taste. Sbu dreams of opening his own gallery one day and for the moment he mainly exhibits at the Victory Church in Jeffreys Bay.

Bedazziling Beads
Approximately 18 kilometres from Jeffreys Bay lies the small town of Humansdorp. When in the area, be sure to make a stop and see Eline “Mimi” Joubert’s fascinating bead work. Mimi uses a variety of materials to make elegant, funky and creative jewellery. The materials range from copper to glass and even porcupine pens. Her creations range from pendants which are strung with brightly coloured beads to add some flavour to any outfit. Mimi’s talents expand to dress beading as well and she often does fine bead work on wedding gowns and matric farewell dresses as well as shoes. Her work has been exhibited in fashion shows held in the prestige Feather Market Hall in Port Elizabeth. Although Mimi faces the challenge of having to buy her beads in Port Elizabeth, as it is not as readily available in Humansdorp, this doesn't stop her ambition of owning her own bead shop in the future. She has been marketing her products from home for the past 3 years.
Like Sbu, Mimi only has a few pieces with which to tempt, as she prefers each piece of jewellery to be custom made and unique to the owner.
