OKLAHOMA CITY - The International Pentecostal Holiness Church is reaching out to veterans through Run For The Wall, a cross-country motorcycle trip May 13-24.
-Run For The Wall honors veterans of all wars and raises awareness for Prisoners of War and for those Missing in Action. Over 300,000 bikers make the 10-day ride from California to Washington, D.C. to honor and support military personnel.
"It is our belief that when we serve these great heroes of our nation, ones that are overlooked and neglected, that we are doing it unto Jesus," said Rev. Gary Burd, who heads up the IPHC's participation in the event.
Burd pastors Christian Heritage Church in Amarillo, TX. He also directs Mission:M25, an IPHC ministry that reaches out to non-traditional groups like bikers and the homeless.
The church helps by bringing a hydration trailer to the run, which carries about 45,000 pounds of food and water for participants.
Burd and 75 others will volunteer to serve on the run this year. Many of them will ride motorcycles alongside veterans. The finale of the event is the Rolling Thunder Parade on the Sunday night before Memorial Day, where bikers ride from the Pentagon to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.
“The International Pentecostal Holiness Church joins others all across America in giving honor to those valiant men and women who sacrifice everything and put themselves in harm’s way daily to defend this great nation and secure freedom around the world,” said Dr. Ronald Carpenter, Sr., Evangelism USA Director. “Mission M25 is the ‘point of the spear’ for the IPHC in honoring our veterans.”
Burd and his team will travel the Southern Route, which goes through several major cities including: Phoenix, AZ; Monroe, LA; Jackson, MS; and Knoxville, TN. For a complete list of stops, go to the RFTW website at http://www.rftw.org.
